THE ONTARIO LAWYERS’ ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Finding Wellness and Balance for Lawyers

The organizations and web sites listed here are general resources and provide a starting point for information on topics that are frequently identified by lawyers who call the Ontario Lawyers' Assistance Program (OLAP). For information about sources of help and additional suggestions for specific resources in your area call OLAP. We will be able to help with additional details, resources, and suggestions.

GENERAL HEALTH AND BALANCE

Optimum Health http://www.optimumhealth.ca/is a website that assists in recognizing and managing the challenges of stress, weight/nutrition and pain

Lawyer Work Life Balance Calculator http://www.envoyglobal.net/jdbliss/test/calculator2.htm is a website that helps to determine the amount of hours you spend in your office during the week to meet the billable hour requirements of your firm and the amount of time you'll need to spend working at home after work or on weekends if you can't meet your firm's billable hour requirements solely from your office time.

MENTAL HEALTH

Lawyers With Depression www.lawyerswithdepression.com

Dan Lukasik is the managing partner at the law firm of Cantor Lukasik Dolce & Panepinto, P.C. located in Buffalo, New York and has been in practice for 20 years. He is currently a member of the New York State Bar Association’s Lawyers’ Assistance Committee.  His work on the committee is focused on assisting lawyers who suffer from depression from which he has coped with for many years.  He has created a web site specifically designed for lawyers, judges and law students struggling with depression.

Provides the latest research.

Dr. Bodnar www.anabodnar.com Dr. Ana Bodnar teaches in the Graduate Counselling Program the University of Toronto, and is a clinical consultant at CAMH. She has also taught at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, the Adler School of Professional Psychology, the Esther Myers Yoga School, Yoga Space, and others. Dr. Bodnar's meditation CD, "Embracing Peace: Guided Meditations for Joy and Tranquility" has been used by many meditation practitioners in their meditation practice, and by those wishing to diminish their stress.
